چکیده

Methods Systematic literature searches (MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO and CINAHL) identified articles reporting HRQL data after curative treatments for oesophageal cancer from validated patient-completed questionnaires. The most frequently used instruments were examined (EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-OES24, QLQ-OES18, SF-36 & FACT-E). Outcome reporting bias was explored by examining which of the instrument’s scales and single items were documented in the methods and the results of papers, with each article checked by two independent reviewers.

Background & Objectives: Randomized controlled trials are the most reliable type of study to be able to compare different interventions in scientific research. The introduction of bias into the design and conduct of randomized controlled trials can seriously affect the accuracy of the results and led to the results be invalid. The aim of this study was to assess the bias in randomized controlle...

The development of a colorectal cancer surgery core outcome set

Background Systematic reviews of colorectal cancer surgical trials demonstrate significant heterogeneity of outcome measurement and evidence for selective outcome reporting. This weakens evidence synthesis by hindering metaanalyses, and undermines trial results through outcome reporting bias. This study developed a “core set” of outcomes to be used in trials of colorectal cancer surgery to mini...

Reporting clinical outcomes of breast reconstruction: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND Breast reconstruction after mastectomy for cancer requires accurate evaluation to inform evidence-based participatory decision making, but the standards of outcome reporting after breast reconstruction have not previously been considered. METHODS We used extensive searches to identify articles reporting surgical outcomes of breast reconstruction. We extracted data using published c...

Core outcome measures in perioperative and anaesthetic care

Background There is no current consensus within the anaesthetic and perioperative research community on what outcomes are important, nor how to measure them. This leads to heterogeneity of outcome reporting in randomised controlled trials (RCTs), and selective outcome reporting – i.e. a bias towards reporting only statistically significant outcomes [1]. Here we describe an initiative to develop...

Variability of outcome reporting in Hirschsprung’s Disease and gastroschisis: a systematic review

Heterogeneity in outcome reporting limits identification of gold-standard treatments for Hirschsprung's Disease(HD) and gastroschisis. This review aimed to identify which outcomes are currently investigated in HD and gastroschisis research so as to counter this heterogeneity through informing development of a core outcome set(COS). Two systematic reviews were conducted. Studies were eligible fo...
